Charles Ciccone is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physical Therapy at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. He received his BS in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 1975, and his PhD in Physiology from Rutgers University in 1983. After receiving his BS, Dr. Ciccone practiced clinically for several years. His primary clinical interest was in the rehabilitation of people with neurologic disorders, amputations, and spinal cord injuries. At Rutgers, his research focused on the physiological and pharmacological regulation of renal and cardiovascular function during exercise and in certain disease states. He joined the Physical Therapy Department at Ithaca College in 1983, where his primary teaching areas included pharmacology, physiology, and cardiopulmonary physical therapy. He retired from his position as full professor in 2023.
During his teaching career, Dr. Ciccone also served as an Editorial Board Member and Associate Editor for Abstracts and Reviews for Physical Therapy (Journal of the American Physical Therapy Association), and as a member of the Editorial Advisory Group of PT in Motion. Dr. Ciccone’s primary area of scholarship is pharmacology, and he has had extensive experience integrating pharmacology with physical rehabilitation. He has published articles on various aspects of the physiological response to drug therapy, and he is the author of the book Pharmacology in Rehabilitation, a textbook designed for rehabilitation specialists. He has also done numerous presentations on the impact of drug therapy on rehabilitation, and he continues to engage in translational research that defines how pharmacology can affect patients receiving physical therapy.
